What Big Insurance Doesn’t Want You To Know

This week the Associated Industries put out a video mocking the Plaintiff’s attorney bar statewide and making fun of every Floridian who has ever had a dispute with an insurance company as our Tampa, FL personal injury lawyer who has been rated 10.0 by Avvo can explain.

This might seem on its surface to be an innocuous attempt by a lobbying group to be funny and topical. But as a personal injury attorney who deals everyday with hundreds of truly injured people in Florida and the blatantly uncaring response to these individuals by big insurance companies, this video is a slap in the face to me and it should be to you too.

Let’s break this video down a bit.

First Off, Who Is The Associated Industries Of Florida.

In addition to representing cigarette companies, power companies, sugar companies, and beer companies, AIF as  they are commonly known is the hired mouthpiece for the insurance industry including TRAVELERS  Insurance Company, The American Property and Casualty Insurance Association, and the Florida Insurance Council. AIF hosts swanky parties and gives out millions upon millions of dollars to swampy politicians in a concerted effort to push for laws that will increase the profits of insurance companies. They do this fully knowing that those laws will at some point hurt almost every Floridian.

Make no mistake, big insurance companies use these types of innocuous sounding groups to fight publicly for things and laws that they can’t do personally because it could be improper, or it could hurt their reputation. So they pass money to groups like AIF to do their bidding while they hide in the shadows and collect the $$$.

What Does AIF’s Video Say? Let’s Break It Down. 

“A timeless tradition: Attorneys trying to profit off of Florida families through meritless lawsuits.”

A couple of questions for the big insurance companies sponsoring this ad.

1. Is it meritless when a person gets injured in a car accident and the other person does not have insurance to cover their injuries?
   1. Note: These innocent victims have to live the rest of their life with the injuries caused by another person, but may have no way to pay for the medical costs associated with those injuries.
2. Is it meritless, that a person hires a lawyer to represent them, when their roof gets blown off and the insurance company only offers to pay them 50% (or less) of the replacement cost?
3. Is it meritless when a person asks an insurance company to pay for all of their future medical damages that come from an injury caused by someone else?

The obvious answer to all of those questions is no, it’s clearly not meritless. But AIF and big insurance companies want you to think it is.

Why Does This Video Matter? 

Herein lies the issue. A couple guys in Tallahassee that work on behalf of big insurance companies thought it was funny to put out a video that blatantly calls all claims against insurance companies Meritless. They are doing this solely at the behest of the insurance companies that employ them in a concerted effort to defeat common sense laws that would help you if you are ever in the situation where you need to challenge one of these insurance companies. Say you are injured in a car accident and need a future surgery, well these guys in Tallahassee think your injuries are meritless even though someone else did this to you and now you have huge medical bills. They don’t care about your accident or how legal representation can help you recover compensation.

These guys (or girls) and the insurance companies that hired them don’t care about you or the reason your car accident happened, they don’t care about how the injuries you suffer affect you, they don’t care if you end up bankrupt because the person who hurt you has no insurance or because the roof you need costs more than you have in your bank account. All they care about are profits and they are actively working to undermine laws that protect you to pad those profits. That’s the whole point of this video.
