Vehicle strikes, kills pedestrian in S Pinellas Co. crash

PASS-A-GRILLE, FL – A 56-year-old pedestrian died, and another went to the hospital Sunday after a vehicle struck them along a roadway in Pass-a-Grille Beach, reports 10 Tampa Bay.

Police say the incident happened around 7 p.m. near the intersection of Gulf Way and 8th Avenue, which is in the Pass-a-Grille Historic District.

The investigation so far indicates that two women were walking across Gulf Way outside of a designated crosswalk when a driver in an SUV struck them after turning left from 8th Avenue.

Medics transported both women to the hospital. One of the women, identified as Lynn Gilliland, died after transport.

The other woman, identified as 68-year-old Maria Rodriguez, suffered non-critical injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.

Authorities do not suspect impairment on the part of the 21-year-old driver. A full investigation is underway.
