Two-vehicle collision kills two at Englewood intersection

ENGLEWOOD, FL – Two senior women died, and two other people suffered serious injuries when two SUVs collided Monday in southwest Sarasota County, reports abc Action News.

Police say the incident happened just before 6:30 p.m. when an SUV with three occupants pulled in front of an SUV with one occupant at the intersection of Artists Avenue and North Indiana Avenue.

The first SUV had been stopped at a traffic sign on Artists Avenue when the 73-year-old driver pulled into the path of the second SUV, which was headed southbound on North Indiana Avenue. The first SUV overturned when it was struck on its side by the second SUV.

The driver of the first SUV and a 68-year-old passenger died at the scene of the collision. Another 68-year-old passenger sustained critical injuries.

Medics transported the driver of the second SUV to the hospital with serious injuries.

The investigation of the crash is ongoing.
