Two-car Oldsmar collision kills senior passenger

OLDSMAR, FL – An 87-year-old man died Friday when the car in which he was riding collided with a pickup at an intersection in northeast Pinellas County, reports Tampa Bay Times.

Police say the incident happened around 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Tampa Road and East Lake Woodlands Parkway.

The investigation thus far suggests that the victim’s wife, 84-year-old Kay Johnson, neglected to use her turn signal when completing a left hand turn without a green arrow in her 2005 Lexus from Tampa Road onto East Lake Woodlands Parkway. A westbound pickup truck struck the passenger side of the Lexus in the intersection.

The passenger in the Lexus, identified as Ronald Johnson, died at the scene of the accident.

Medics transported the driver to the hospital with serious injuries. She is expected to recover.

It is unknown if the driver of the pickup truck sustained injuries in the crash.

A full investigation is underway.
