Triathlete struck, killed while biking on Gandy Blvd

TAMPA, FL – A well-known female athlete died Saturday when a vehicle struck her bicycle on a busy roadway in Tampa, reports Fox 13 Tampa Bay.

Police say the incident happened Saturday morning in the 5100 block of West Gandy Boulevard, which is just east of the Gandy Bridge and just west of South West Shore Boulevard.

Authorities have not released any details about how the accident happened but have identified the victim as Jessica Bibza of Tampa. Bibza was training for an Ironman Championship event in Hawaii at the time of the collision.

It is unclear at this time if a driver has been charged in connection with the crash. A full investigation of the incident is underway.
