Stolen car crash in St. Pete kills teen, injures 2 others

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – One teenager died, and two others went to the hospital Sunday morning after they crashed a stolen Maserati in south Pinellas County, reports 10 Tampa Bay.

Police say the incident happened shortly after 3:20 a.m. in the area of 62nd Avenue North and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North.

The investigation indicates that three teenagers, between the ages of 15 and 16, stole a Maserati from a driveway near the intersection of 62nd Avenue North and 28th Street North.  The 15-year-old driver refused to stop for police and sped eastbound on 62nd Avenue at a high rate of speed. The vehicle struck a curb, at which point it left the roadway and overturned after striking a sign.

The 15-year-old driver died at the scene of the crash.

Medics transported two teen passengers to the hospital with serious injuries.

A full investigation of the incident is underway.
