Sedan strikes, kills motorcyclist on US-301 in Sarasota

SARASOTA, FL –  A 66-year-old motorcyclist sustained serious injuries Tuesday night when a vehicle ran a red light and struck him on a highway in Sarasota, reports abc7.

Police say the incident happened around 7:45 p.m. at the intersection of US-301, or Washington Boulevard, and University Parkway.

The investigation suggests that the 19-year-old driver of a sedan ran a red light on US-301 and collided with a motorcyclist as he turned left from the opposite side of US-301 onto University Parkway.

Medics transported the victim to the hospital with critical injuries.

A full investigation is underway.
