Polk Co. crash involving semi-truck on I-4 injures 2

POLK COUNTY, FL – An early morning multi-vehicle collision involving an 18-wheeler injured two and resulted in lane closures on the interstate near Polk City, reports Spectrum News 9.

Police say the incident happened at 3:35 a.m. in the area of I-4 and Polk Parkway, or FL-570. This stretch of interstate is near Lakeland, Auburndale, and Polk City.

Authorities have not yet explained how the accident happened but say it involved an overturned tractor-trailer that caught fire following a diesel fuel spill.

Medics transported two people to the hospital. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

Officials closed all lanes in both directions on I-4 following the crash while crews responded to the scene and worked to clean up the fuel spill.

A full investigation is underway.
