Plant City rollover crash kills 1 on I-4

PLANT CITY, FL – A 33-year-old man died early Saturday morning when his vehicle crashed along the interstate in northeast Hillsborough County, reports WFLA News 8.

Police say the incident happened at 12:15 a.m. on the eastbound side of I-4 near the exit for County Line Road.

The preliminary investigation suggests that the driver tried to move from the center lane to the left lane to pass a slower driver. For unknown reasons, the driver lost control and collided with the guardrail on the median after rotating many times. The vehicle then overturned several times, at which point the unrestrained driver was ejected.

The victim died at the scene of the accident.

While the victim’s car did not hit any other vehicles, debris from his vehicle collided with the car he initially attempted to pass. That car sustained some damage, but the occupants of the vehicle were not injured.

A full investigation is underway.
