Pickup truck strikes school bus in Clearwater, hurting 1

CLEARWATER, FL – One person sustained minor injuries when a pickup truck collided with a Pinellas County school bus on a busy roadway Tuesday, reports WFLA News 8.

Police say the incident happened in the afternoon on Belleair Road, just east of Bravo Drive, which is just northeast of Eagle Lake Park.

The investigation thus far indicates that the 45-year-old driver of a westbound Nissan Frontier collided with the left rear of an eastbound school bus. The driver of the pickup truck veered into the eastbound lane while attempting to pass other westbound drivers. The school bus driver avoided a head-on crash by moving the bus to the shoulder.

The bus was carrying 23 students at the time of the crash. None of the students were injured, nor were either of the drivers. A bus monitor sustained minor injuries.

A full investigation is underway.
