News: Woman hospitalized after trolley crash in St. Pete

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – A woman in her 70s sustained severe injuries when a trolley collided with her vehicle in downtown St. Petersburg on Wednesday morning, Tampa Bay Times reports.

Police say the T-bone crash happened at the intersection of 16th Street North and Central Avenue at 10:05 a.m. The driver of a Chrysler Pacifica ran a red light as she travelled south on 16th Street. The trolley hit the side of her vehicle as it travelled west on Central Avenue. The Pacifica collided with several parked cars after the initial collision with the trolley.

The unnamed driver of the Pacifica went to the hospital with critical injuries, though she is reported to be in stable condition.

Six or so trolley passengers also sustained minor injuries, for which they sought treatment at a local hospital. Other passengers refused medical evaluation.

An investigation of the incident is underway.
