News: SUV from Tarpon Springs crash hits, kills pedestrian

TARPON SPRINGS, FL – A 42-year-old pedestrian died on Sunday evening when an SUV that had just been involved in a two-car crash hit her in north Tarpon Springs.

Tampa Bay Times reports the SUV hit the female pedestrian at 5:20 p.m. as she walked along the shoulder of Anclote Boulevard near Oakmont Avenue.

Police say the SUV had just been involved in a crash with a sedan at the same intersection.

The driver of the sedan failed to yield at a stop sign while travelling north on Oakmont and collided with the SUV, which was travelling westbound on Anclote. The impact of the collision caused the SUV to spin and hit the pedestrian.

Emergency vehicles took the pedestrian to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries.

Neither of the drivers involved in the crash sustained injuries, nor did the two passengers in the SUV.

Police have not yet said whether charges will be filed against the driver of the sedan. They have not released the names of the parties involved in the accident.

The investigation is ongoing.
