News: Single-vehicle crash in Polk Co. kills 1, injures 1

LAKE ALFRED, FL – A woman died, and her adolescent son went to the hospital after their minivan crashed along a roadway in Lake Alfred on Sunday, abc Action News reports.

Police say the incident happened around 1:15 p.m. near the intersection of Lake Mattie Road and Adams Barn Road.

The driver of a silver 2021 Dodge Caravan, identified as 49-year-old Patricia Bixler, lost control of her vehicle as she attempted to handle a ninety-degree turn at the intersection. The minivan veered from the roadway and crashed into a concrete utility pole.

Bixler died at the scene of the accident. Her 18-year-old son, identified as Bobbi Bowen, went to a local hospital to receive treatment for non-critical injuries.

Both Bixler and her son were properly restrained at the time of the crash.

A full investigation is underway.
