News: Senior cyclist struck, killed in Clearwater

CLEARWATER, FL – An 84-year-old bicyclist died Tuesday after running a stop sign and entering the path of a sedan at a busy intersection in Clearwater, reports Tampa Bay Times.

Police say the incident happened around 8:25 a.m. at the intersection of South Myrtle Avenue and Belleair Road.

An eastbound sedan struck the cyclist as he travelled southbound on South Myrtle Avenue.

The cyclist died after transport to a local hospital. It is unclear if he was wearing a safety helmet at the time of the accident.

The 24-year-old driver of the sedan did not sustain injuries in the collision.
