Pedestrian struck, killed by 2 vehicles in Polk Co.

LAKELAND, FL – A 27-year-old man died in Lakeland Tuesday after being hit by two cars while attempting to cross the highway on foot, reports The Free Press.

Police say the incident happened around 8:44 p.m. in the vicinity of 3000 US-98 North.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a southbound 2008 Infiniti sedan struck the pedestrian in the inside lane as he attempted to cross US-98 outside of a specified crosswalk. The man was then hit a second time by a southbound 1997 Toyota Camry.

Medics transported the victim, identified as Hector Lugo, to a local hospital, where he died soon after from injuries sustained in the accident.

The two drivers involved in the accident remained at the scene and cooperated with police. They were not injured in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
