News: Pedestrian killed in Davenport hit-and-run on US-27

DAVENPORT, FL – A 41-year-old man from Clermont died on Friday after a vehicle struck him on a Polk County highway and fled the scene, The Free Press Reports.

Police say the incident occurred sometime before 12:50 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. 27 and Polo Park Boulevard. After a call to 911, officials found a deceased pedestrian in the median and determined he was likely a victim of a hit-and-run collision.

Soon after, police officers in Lake County spotted a suspicious white sedan that had significant damage to its front end. The driver of the vehicle ran a stop sign and fled from police when they turned on their emergency lights.

Authorities traced the white 2011 Infiniti to David Street, Jr. of Clermont. They later arrested Street at his home where the suspect confessed to hitting the pedestrian in Polk County and leaving the scene of the crash.
