News: Officer hurt in crash with alleged DUI driver in Tampa

TAMPA, FL – A multi-vehicle crash involving an alleged drunk driver at a busy Tampa intersection injured a Hillsborough County deputy on Sunday morning, reports 10 Tampa Bay.

Police say the incident happened just after 6 a.m. at the intersection of North Dale Mabry Highway and Ehrlich Road.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a northbound car crashed into the deputy’s eastbound 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe in the intersection. The force of the collision caused the deputy’s marked Tahoe to rotate and hit a Honda Civic.

The deputy went to the hospital with an upper-body injury.

The two occupants in the Honda Civic did not sustain injuries in the crash.

Police arrested the alleged drunk driver, identified as Carlos Aquino, on charges of driving under the influence and driving without a valid driver’s license. It is unclear if Aquino sustained injuries in the crash.
