News: Multi-vehicle Sarasota crash involving semi injures 7
SARASOTA, FL – Seven people were hospitalized after a Monday morning crash in Sarasota involving an 18-wheeler and five other vehicles, reports Bradenton Herald.
Police say the incident happened just before 10:30 a.m. on the southbound side of I-75 just north of Clark Road.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the tractor-trailer rear-ended a vehicle that was stopped in traffic. That initial collision then caused several other vehicles to collide in sequence.
Medics transported seven people with injuries to local hospitals. At this time, they are all expected to survive.
The 34-year-old male driver of the 18-wheeler sustained minor injuries.
Authorities have not publicly identified the people involved. We do know that the injured drivers include a 58-year old male driver of a Ford SUV, a 23-year-old male driver of an Isuzu pickup, a 79-year-old male driver of an Acura SUV, and a 30-year-old male driver of a Dodge pickup truck.
Officials closed all southbound lanes of I-75 in the vicinity of the accident until the afternoon. The incident remains under investigation.
