News: Motorcycle collides with van in Polk Co., killing 2

AUBURNDALE, FL – Both a 50-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman died after their motorcycle crashed into a van after evading police in Auburndale on Wednesday, reports abc Action News.

Police say the incident happened just after 4 p.m. near the intersection of Berkley Road and Oak Crossing Boulevard.

Prior to the crash, authorities had tried to stop a 2004 Honda Shadow motorcycle on Old Lakeland Auburndale Road when they noticed something amiss with the vehicle’s registration. Police cancelled the pursuit after the motorcyclist accelerated and headed northbound on Berkley Road.

The motorcyclist then collided with the driver’s side of a 2012 Honda Odyssey as the driver of the van turned left from Oak Crossing Boulevard onto Berkley Road.

Both the driver of the motorcycle and his passenger were ejected from the bike and died from injuries sustained in the crash. Authorities have identified them as Michael Hamilton of Lakeland and Jeana Wright of Auburndale.

The driver of the van, identified as a 79-year-old woman, went to the hospital where she remains in stable condition. The van carried one additional passenger, who was not injured in the collision.
