News: Dump truck driver dead in Wimauma crash on U.S. 301

WIMAUMA, FL – A 57-year-old dump truck driver died when his truck overturned on U.S. 301 in south Hillsborough County on Monday.

Tampa Bay Times reports that the accident happened around 12:02 p.m. near the intersection with Lightfoot Road.

Police say the dump truck driver had been travelling south on U.S. 301 when he swerved onto the west shoulder to avoid a sedan that had entered his path after a left turn from Lightfoot Road. The dump truck driver overcorrected, veered to the east shoulder, and overturned.

The driver of the dump truck died at the scene of the accident. The 21-year-old driver of the car did not sustain injuries.
