News: Car strikes, kills cyclist on SR-559 in Polk Co.

AUBURNDALE, FL – A bicyclist died Sunday morning when his bike collided with a vehicle on a highway in Auburndale, The Free Press reports.

Police say the incident occurred at 7:09 a.m. on State Road 559 when a southbound car hit a southbound cyclist just north of Sunset Lane.

The 31-year-old cyclist from Orlando died at the scene of the crash.

It is currently unclear if the 26-year-old man driving the vehicle sustained injuries in the collision.

Authorities have not yet commented on the circumstances of the crash and what caused the Auburndale man’s vehicle to run over the bicycle.
