News: 6 hospitalized when pickup hits daycare in Clearwater

CLEARWATER, FL – A woman driving a pickup truck crashed into a childcare center in Pinellas County on Monday, injuring three children, a parent, and a teacher.

10 Tampa Bay reports that the incident happened around 5:30 p.m. at a childcare facility on Lakeview Road called Building Blocks at Clearwater. The facility is close to the intersection with South Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.

Police say a woman driving a pickup truck entered the parking lot of the facility to pick up a family member. The woman accidentally accelerated instead of braking and hit three kids, of ages 2, 3, and 5. She also hit a mother and a teacher.

All five victims were transported to a local hospital with injuries that do not appear to be life threatening.

Officials cited the driver for careless driving. She also went to the hospital for an evaluation but did not suffer serious injuries.
