News: 2 killed in multi-vehicle Tampa crash on I-275 NB
TAMPA, FL – A 53-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man died after a Monday morning accident involving six cars on the northbound side of I-275 in Tampa, reports The Free Press.
Police say the incident happened around 7:30 a.m. at the exit ramp from I-255 NB to Veterans Expressway, or FL-589.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the 51-year-old northbound driver of a pickup truck crashed into the rear of a car stopped in front of him. At the time of the collision, the driver of the pickup truck had turned away from the road to look at his phone.
The car carried two occupants, both of whom died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Several other people sustained minor injuries in the accident. While authorities have specified that six cars total were involved in the wreck, it is unclear how many people were injured.
The incident remains under investigation.
