Motorized scooter collides with car, killing 1 in Tampa

TAMPA, FL – A 39-year-old man died early Wednesday morning when his scooter collided with a vehicle at a busy intersection in Tampa, reports The Free Press.

Police say the incident happened around 6 a.m. at the intersection of US-301 and FL-618, or the Selmon Expressway.

An initial report indicates that the driver of the scooter was headed northbound in the left turn late of US-301 when he collided with a Nissan Ultima as it turned left from the southbound side of US-3o1 onto FL-618.

The force of the collision threw the driver of the scooter from his vehicle, and he died at the scene of the accident. It is unclear if the victim was wearing a safety helmet.

A full investigation is underway.
