Minor injuries cited in Tampa police chase, series of crashes

TAMPA, FL – Two drivers were arrested Monday after being involved in crashes with five different vehicles during a police chase in Hillsborough County, reports Fox 13 Tampa Bay.

Police say they began pursuing suspects from a felony theft incident around 1:30 p.m. The suspects were in a Nissan Altima, and fled police from westbound I-4 to northbound I-75.

The first of a series of accidents occurred when the Nissan crashed into a Jeep Wrangler on the westbound side of Fowler Avenue near Gillette Street.

The Nissan then went on to hit three additional cars at the intersection of East Fowler Avenue and 56th Street, at which point the occupants exited the vehicle and got into a Dodge Durango SUV.

The final crash occurred near the intersection of East Fowler Avenue and North 50th Street when the driver of the Durango crashed into a marked police car on purpose. The cruiser was empty at the time of the crash.

Authorities detained five occupants from the Durango and arrested two people, identified as Grecham Toliver and Ashley Gater.

Police reported that all five occupants of the Durango suffered minor injuries. It is unclear at this time if anyone else sustained injuries during the earlier crashes.
