Car strikes, kills pedestrian on US-98 NB near Duff Rd.

LAKELAND, FL – A man died Monday night after falling in front of a vehicle on a highway in Lakeland, reports 10 Tampa Bay.

Police say the incident happened just before 11 p.m. on the northbound side of US-98 near Duff Road, which is just east of Hunt Fountain Park.

The investigation indicates that a man wearing dark clothing appeared to stumble while walking along the shoulder of the highway. The man fell into the path of a northbound 1989 Buick Century.

The pedestrian died at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the car and a passenger remained at the scene to speak with authorities.

A full investigation is underway.
