FROSTPROOF, FL – A 28-year-old man died when a vehicle struck him as he crossed the highway on foot in south-central Polk County on Friday, reports Fox 13 Tampa Bay.
Police say the incident happened Friday night on U.S. 27 near Charles Street in Frostproof.
The investigation thus far indicates that the victim was walking across U.S. 27 after visiting Sunoco convenience store to the east of the highway. A 2020 Volkswagen Jetta driven by a 17-year-old female struck the pedestrian on the highway. Police say the victim was dressed in dark clothes at the time of the accident.
The pedestrian, identified as Evelio Hernandez Ramos, died at the scene of the accident.
The teen driver stopped and cooperated with authorities.
A full investigation is underway.
