WINTER HAVEN, FL – A 73-year-old woman died Sunday after her vehicle collided almost head-on with a wrong-way sedan along a busy roadway in Winter Haven, reports 10 Tampa Bay.
Police say the incident happened just after 7 p.m. on State Road 544, or Lucerne Park Road, east of Lake Fannie.
The investigation thus far indicates that the driver of an eastbound sedan lost control of her vehicle and veered into the westbound lane, at which point she crashed into the victim’s westbound SUV. The collision caused the SUV to overturn.
Medics transported both drivers to a local hospital. The driver of the SUV died after transport.
The 24-year-old driver of the sedan sustained critical injuries.
A full investigation is underway.
