LAKELAND, FL – An elderly man died, and a woman went to the hospital with serious injuries after two cars collided on the interstate in Lakeland, reports WFLA News 8.
Police say the incident happened around 1:40 a.m. on the westbound side of I-4 in the area of mile marker 39, which is just west of Florida Polytechnic University.
The investigation indicates that the driver of an SUV crashed into the rear of a car while attempting to pass the car on the interstate.
Medics transported the 74-year-old car driver to the hospital, where he died from injuries sustained in the crash.
A 31-year-old passenger from the SUV went to the hospital with serious injuries.
The 24-year-old driver of the SUV suffered only minor injuries.
